26 letters and 26 days of school!

Beginning Monday April 30th, we will do our end of the year countdown with the letters of the alphabet.  Each day we will focus on one letter and make a connection to a letter of the alphabet.
A:  Bring your favorite stufffed animal
B:  Bubbles and Birthdays
C:  We are going camping
D:  Dinosaur Day
E:  Exercise!!!!

"Toad-ally" excited about the class of 2024!

Thanks to all the families that came to open house. My apologies for the technology glitch at the beginning, but in the end I hope you felt well informed as to what to expect for the upcoming school year. I look forward to getting to know your child and you over the course of the next school year! If you were unable to make it to orientation, I will be getting in touch with you soon!

Please remember to bring your child for their assessment appointment. We will also have a little time to talk if there is information you would like to share with me regarding concerns or questions you may have!

Kindergarten Orientation!

A very important night is set for Tuesday August 16th for parents to come hear everything they always wanted to know about kindergarten! This is an informational meeting designed for just parents (child care will be provided by the YMCA). You will have a chance to meet the administrators at Jackson school as well as the kindergarten teachers. I will then meet with you in room 111 and explain the ABC's of kindergarten. This is such and exciting time for you and your child! I can't wait to meet you!

I will also be asking you to sign up for an appointment to bring your child to the classroom to be assessed. More information will follow! Looking forward to a great year!

Report Card Assessmemts

We have been in school for 84 days! That means we are almost half way through our kindergarten year. With that, we have been working hard on our benchmarks and goals for the first semester. You will receive a report card next week that gives you a "snapshot" of what your child is learning. I have updated all the assessments that I gave to your child when the school year began, and all I can say is WOW! What growth we have seen with every child! I am so proud of our progress. I would be happy to share the assessments with you if you would like to come in sometime. Just send a note or email to set up a time! In the meantime, we will continue working on the second semester goals as we grow into readers and writers. Oh, and don't forget the numbers too!

James V. Brown Library

We did a survey in our class that asked whether we had ever visited the James V. Brown Library and we were surprised at the results! When surveyed, only 9 students said they had visited the library and 14 said they had never been there. My challenge to our kindergarten families is to take your child to the library and see what it is all about! There are so many wonderful things to do and see in this great library, why not check it out! I know you will be glad that you did!

We pledge to be bully free in room 111! We had our kick-off today for the Olweus Bullying Program and it was awesome!

Gingerbread Houses

Just a reminder that we will be making our gingerbread houses on Monday December 20th beginning at 1:45. Parents are welcome to join us at this time! Come in and have some fun with your child as you use your imaginations to give the gingerbread man a safe place to live so he does not get eaten by that tricky fox!

Having a great summer!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! My summer has been filled with lots of fun with my family. We took a trip to the beach, did some kayaking and of course, work around the house. I am also making plans for the upcoming kindergarten class! I am excited about creating our kinder "garden"!

It was a great year!

I am so proud of the boys and girls of room 111 for a fantastic year! We worked very hard and had lots of fun along the way. I feel confident as they move on to first grade, that they will continue to blossom both academically and socially! I will truly miss each and every one! Have a great summer! Keep on reading and writing!

Merry month of May!

During the month of May we are busy exploring many different habitats. Our first adventure was a "trip' to the ocean. We created an ocean habitat right in room 111. We are enjoying stories about different ocean animals and we even talked about some current events by experimenting with an oil spill, thanks to the help of Miss Hawryshuk.

Now, we've moved on the the pond! We have a pond habitat filled with tadpoles that we love to get the magnifying glass out to watch! We're learning songs and poems all about habitats. Ask your child to sing one for you!

Come see our Art Show and support the PTO!

Plan to come to the Jackson Art show on Thursday evening to view the incredible art created by each child in our school. Every student in room 111 will have a piece of art on display. Also the PTO will be holding basket raffle. There are several wonderful baskets filled with goodies that will be raffled off. Tickets will be on sale that evening for only .25c each. The PTO is hoping to raise enough money to be able to provide field trips for the students of Jackson Elementary.

We can read with our eyes shut!

We can read in the school.

Families are invited to come to school to celebrate Read Across America day with our class. We will celebrate the love of books and the love of Dr. Seuss on Thursday March 4th at 2:15. We can snuggle up on a favorite blanket and wear our comfy PJ's to school. Come and enjoy the fun with family and friends. Family members who are planning to attend, should send a note in with your child prior to the event.

Smile!

The boys and girls in room 111 are learning how to take good care of our pearly whites! Miss Dincher has prepared a series of lessons to teach the students how to care for their own teeth. Over the next several days, students will listen to stories and participate in activies that encourage good habits for a healthy smile! Happy Brushing!

Reading Logs

I am excited to announce that 2o students made their reading log goal and will be able to attend a special cartoon party with Mrs. Eshelman and Mr. Rathjen. We will begin to work toward the 5th reading log goal now. Students should be reading 4 books a week to stay on track for the goal period that will end on March 19th. The next reward for reading will be a special bingo game.

Miss Dincher is here!

I am honored to share the excitement of room 111 with Miss Dincher, who will be student teaching with us until March 11th. Miss Dincher is lucky to be spending time with the best and the brightest kindergarten students at Jackson Elementary School. We are having fun and learning from her as well.

Reading Logs

We are currently working on our third reading log goal for the year. Student should have 20 books in their log by December 21st. Please help your child to achieve this success by reading one book each day and recording the title and response in the reading log.

Gingerbread Houses

A gingerbread man needs a home!

On Friday December 18 at 1:45 family members can join us in the cafeteria for the construction of our Gingerbread houses. Each child will be able to construct their own gingerbread house complete with walls, a roof and lots and lots of decorations! Please contact Mrs. Welliver if you have any questions or would like to attend.

Donations are needed of graham crackers and white icing (inexpensive type is great) are still needed.

We are having so much fun with the gingerbread man in room 111. We are getting ready to bake our own gingerbread men cookies on December 14th. We will try not to peek while they bake in our oven!

Field Trip Fun!

We went on our awesome field trip to Three Springs Farm in Morris, PA. It was a wonderful day! Although it sure did not feel like the "warm" day they were calling for, we had a blast visiting the farm. We went into a corn maze. Somehow, we never made it all the way around. We came out the entrance??? We watched an old fashioned apple cider press squeeze the juice out of the apples while Mr. Shannon turned the crank. We went for a wagon ride with Jake and Amos, two very big horses. We listened to Miss Val who taught us a little about taking care of horses. Miss Brianna let us give Jake and Amos commands to make them trot and stop while they took us on a horse drawn wagon ride. Mr. Clint took us on a tractor ride to the pumpkin patch to pick our very own pumpkin. Miss Lena helped us make an apple magnet craft. All of this, time for some lunch and a bus ride back to Jackson. Mrs. Welliver was very proud of how well the boys and girls behaved during the field trip. As Jayce said on the bus on the way home "this was the best day ever"! Mrs. Welliver agrees!

Many made their reading log goal!

Congratulations to our kindergarten friends who made their reading log goal! Most of room 111 will be having an extra recess for reading our first 20 books. Now it is time to get started on the next goal!

Just remember, students only need to read 4 books a week to make the goal! Reading logs are checked every thursday. Good luck and keep reading!
